Highland
Extravaganza
On November 3, 2007 Highland enthusiasts from across the country gathered in Pine Bush NY for the first ever Highland Extravaganza! Ted and Wendy Siegel of Glen Haven Farm hosted this record setting event at their lovely facility. There was a chill in the air. A passing storm off the East coast brought cold winds, but nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd. The day started off with a Highland Chili and Stew cook off. The crowd of almost 100 was treated to a blind taste test. They voted and at the days end, Roxie Erler won for the best Highland Stew and Jacquelyn Chotkowski won with her Highland Chili. The crowd agreed that all the entries were tasty and excellent.
The main event of the day was the Foundation Female sale. At 1:00 PM, Dick LeClar of LeClar Brothers Auctions took the microphone and welcomed the crowd. The first animal in, Twinflower Mary Maria, started things off right, selling for $4100. Buy the end of the day 32 lots grossed $86,475 to average $2700. Volume buyers included Don & Sandy Vaughn of Rush City MN, The Vermont Highland Cattle Co. of Newport Center of Vermont, and Robert Bernadoni of Darlington, Wisconsin.
