NEHCA
2004 Spring Meeting
It’s meeting time again! Time to meet old friends and make new ones. Time to share the enthusiasm that always blossoms when Highland breeders gather to indulge themselves in their favorite topic, Highland cattle. And if you’re looking for a new young herd bull or top quality heifer, you’ll have an excellent opportunity to purchase exciting animals at the bull and heifer auction.
On
Friday May 14, the Board of Directors will convene at Who’s Hill Farm for their
spring board meeting.
Saturday
brings a full day of activities, starting with the general membership meeting
at 9 AM at the Quality Inn Suites followed by a presentation by Joyce Harmon,
DVM, on “Mineral Uptake and Utilization in Highland Cattle”. After the meeting,
Hugh and Lynn Wilson invite all NEHCA members to their farm in nearby Sunbury
for lunch and a farm tour to follow. Lynn and Hugh have been breeding Highland
cattle since 1973. Their current herd sire is (embryo import) Dunvegan’s Gillie
Nan Glean (ET) bred by Michael Gibson, Edenvale Farm, Scotland. Gillie’s 2003
and 2004 calf crop will be on display as well as their mothers (most 4th and 5th
generation born on the farm).
After
the farm tour, the action changes to auction at the Middleburg Livestock
Auction facility. For sale will be the top scoring bulls from the 2004 central
bull test plus 10 selected 2-year-old heifers and 4 yearling heifers sired by
former bull test graduates.
Following
the auction, the party moves to Tedd’s on the Hill where a cash bar awaits your
order and dinner will be served. Our after dinner speaker will be Hugh Wilson,
DDS, who will enlighten us on “Genetic Assemblage of Highland Cattle.”
So
there you have it – something for everyone and a great way to spend a weekend
