Call the Spaulding Inn at 1-800-368-8439, email them at: www.spaldinginn.com or fax your reservation to 1-603-837-3062.
Those planning to camp can contact Roger’s Campground in Lancaster at: 603-788-4885.
Saturday activities:
$15.00 per person will cover coffee, tea, and refreshments at the membership meeting; a traditional New England church chicken pie luncheon with all the fixings; and afternoon refreshments at Lost Nation Farm.
Any day-trippers or folks not staying at the Inn who would like to join us at the Spaulding Inn for Saturday dinner may do so by contacting the Inn at least two weeks in advance. The price will be $25 plus tax.
The top three landmarks that come to mind when people think of New Hampshire are: The Old Man of the Mountains, the White Mountains, and Mt. Washington. Weather permitting; you will see them all when you attend the Northeast Highland Cattle Association spring meeting.
We will be staying at the Spaulding Inn, built at the turn of the century. The management has agreed to open the Inn a week ahead of schedule just to accommodate us, so we will have the place to ourselves. There are choices of lodging including rooms at the inn, the carriage house, or several cottages with kitchens and fireplaces. Family Suites are available also. Be sure to contact them soon and reserve your preferred lodging for Friday and Saturday nights, May 17 and 18. On Friday we suggest that you stop for your evening meal at one of the many restaurants located in Littleton,* or eat at The Whitefield Inn (603-837-2760, reservations advised) just west of the Spaulding Inn on Route 3.
Saturday morning you will awake to a full breakfast buffet, and then registration and the general membership meeting that begins promptly at 10 AM in the main dining room. Your Northeast officers and members of the board of directors will be elected at this meeting. This is the ideal time to participate and express your opinions to the association membership! Refreshments will be available. At noon we will proceed 15 minutes north to Lancaster, NH, and enjoy the United Methodist Church’s renowned Chicken Pie luncheon. Another 15-minute ride will bring you to Chris and Sue Hawkins’ Lost Nation Farm, where we will have a workshop on artificial insemination by a member of the Genex staff, and refreshments. Some may want to have a tour of our electricity generating hydro. The Bouthillier family has generously invited everyone to visit their Hodge Hill Farm in Lancaster, beginning at 4 PM. Alan and Donna have a beautiful spot and 15 Highlands. We’ll wind down the day with a sumptuous buffet dinner back at the Spaulding Inn at 7 PM.
Sunday morning, breakfast for those at the Spaulding Inn is from 8-10 AM, and then you are on your own to explore some of the Great North woods or head home. There are several golf courses within an easy drive, and natural formations like The Basin, The Flume, and Lost River as well as spectacular mountain scenery just about everywhere you look. If spring comes early, you can make a trip to the summit of Mt. Washington.
There are hiking trails all around, and local kayak and canoe rentals and guided tours.
We’re looking forward to seeing you in May!
